More Cash and Mandatory Obstacle Completion for “Savage Pros”

We asked Operations Manager Garfield Griffiths, who was recently brought on to the Savage team, why it was important to make this change. He told us, “I have been a fan of mandatory obstacle completion at all my previous events. I think penalties are simply too hard to police properly and unfortunately cheating does occur. My other reason is that, it’s an obstacle race, if the race is giving cash away, then you need to be able to complete all the obstacles set before you”.

The complete press release is below.

March 17, 2015 – Orlando, FL – Savage Race, a 5-7 mile obstacle course race featuring 25 of the world’s best obstacles, today announced the addition of cash prizes for SavagePRO male and female overall finishers at all Savage Race events nationwide.

Cash prize awards in Florida, where Savage Race was founded and is headquartered, will continue to be $1,500 for first place, $750 for second place, and $250 for third place. Cash prizes in all locations outside of Florida will be $1,000 for first place, $500 for second place, and $250 for third place.
The coveted Savage Axe, awarded to the fastest, most savage male and female athlete at Savage Race, will continue to be given to the first place overall male and female finishers for conquering the world’s best obstacles with strength and speed. Both overall and age group winners will also be awarded a gold medal, sliver medal, or bronze medal, respectively.

“We’re excited to announce the awarding of cash prizes at all our events nationwide,” said Sam Abbitt, CEO and Co-Founder of Savage Race. “We’re looking forward to drawing even more elite competitors to Savage Race with these prizes and the new requirement of mandatory obstacle completion. We strive to continually improve Savage Race and believe that these changes are very beneficial for our SavagePRO competitors.”
Mandatory obstacle completion will now be required for all SavagePRO athletes. Competitors will be required to complete each obstacle as specified in the SavagePRO Rules and by event management and staff on site. There will be no “workout” alternative to the obstacles. Athletes will be given an unlimited number of attempts at each obstacle. However, if an athlete fails to complete an obstacle successfully and chooses to continue on to the next obstacle, that athlete will forfeit his eligibility for SavagePRO cash prizes and awards.

To be eligible for SavagePRO cash prizes and age group awards, athletes must register for the SavagePRO wave at 9:00 AM on Saturday events only. The SavagePRO Rules can be viewed on our FAQ page.

To recap, the SavagePRO awards and cash prize structure is as follows:
